Korea Electric Power Company was founded on January 26th, 1898, and was then called Seoul Company. Korea Electric Power Company (KEPCO) is the only electric power company in Korea, which is represented as "Korea Electric Power Corporation" in Chinese characters of Han Wenzhong. In July 1961, three regional power companies merged to form Korea Power Company. On July 1st, 1981, three power companies, Korea, Seoul and South Korea, merged into one company, renamed Korea Electric Company,Ltd The company is committed to the construction of various projects to develop power resources. On January 1, 1982, the company was transformed into a state-owned company and became a state-owned group company. Since then, it has been developing steadily and has become a public utility enterprise at present. In 1989. In order to develop this enterprise into a good public utility enterprise, 21% of the company’s share capital is sold to the society as the first step of the company’s privatization.
At the end of 1995, the paid-in capital was 3,118.3 billion won (equivalent to US$ 4 billion), which was 812 times higher than the 3,840 million won when the company was established in 1961. At the end of 1995, the asset scale was 27,165.1 billion won (equivalent to 34,827 million US dollars).
At the end of 1995, there were 36,446 employees, including 5,658 managers, 18,885 technicians, 6,224 workers and 5,667 others.
At the end of 1995, the organization consisted of comprehensive adjustment offices, four headquarters and six business groups, with 33 departments (offices) and 605 branches.

Korea Electric Power Company strives to enter the power industry in China, the Philippines and other Southeast Asian countries, making it an international enterprise.
Gradually increase the installed capacity of LNG, reduce the proportion of oil-fired power stations, and install sulfur removal devices, electrostatic precipitators and other environmental protection equipment in the joint power station.
Promote the development of alternative energy resources and clean coal technology.
Establish 15 independent power plants.
Nuclear power plants are being planned.
corporate culture
The management idea of Korea Electric Power Company is to advocate that "power culture" plays a leading role in colorful social life and contributes to the development of national economy through power production and supply.
Korean electric power organization structure
Organization of Korea Electric Power Company (2005)
-Ministry of Planning and Research. Mainly responsible for management, information, finance, cooperation plan, etc. Korea Electric Power Research Institute (KEPRI) belongs to this department.
-General Affairs Department. Mainly responsible for human resources, education, etc., including six institutions including Korea Electric Power Center Education Research Institute (CEI).
-marketing department. Mainly responsible for power sales, demand side management, distribution management and other businesses, with 190 regional offices.
-Ministry of power transmission. This department is fully responsible for the main business of South Korea’s 765 kV power transmission and transformation project, including power transmission and transformation management, power transmission and transformation construction management, power production plan, communication system and network, and regional power transmission and transformation departments (including 11 regional power supply departments and 3 construction units).
—— Overseas Affairs and KEDO Engineering Department. Mainly responsible for overseas project management, KEDO (Korean Peninsula Energy Development Organization) project, etc., with 7 branches.
The goal of Korea Electric Power Company is to become a world-class power supplier with common development with users. Its core business philosophy is to respect customers, actively innovate and take efficiency as the center. Its development goal is to promote the development of power energy, operate power capital, ensure the stability of power supply, and devote itself to the economic development of the whole society.
765 kV transmission project
The construction of 765 kV transmission project by Korea Electric Power Company is mainly due to the following considerations:
First, driven by the rapid economic development, South Korea’s power load demand has been showing a rapid growth momentum. The average growth rate of electricity consumption reached 14.5% in 2000. Despite the impact of the 1998 Asian financial crisis, in 1995? In 2000, the average annual electricity consumption growth rate was still as high as 8.5%.
Second, South Korea’s land area is limited, and 70% of it is mountainous, so land resources are scarce and difficult to develop. Coupled with strict environmental protection standards, the construction land for substations and line corridors is tight.
Third, there is an imbalance between power generation and electricity consumption in various regions of South Korea. Figure 3 shows the distribution of power flow in South Korea in 2005. The capital area with Seoul as the center and the southeast industrial area with Busan as the center have large population density, rapid economic development and high concentration of load. For example, the load in the capital area accounts for 45% of the country, but the power supply construction in these two areas is insufficient. There are many power sources in southwest and northeast China, but the load growth is slow, which urgently needs to develop high-power and long-distance transmission.
Fourth, due to geographical location, politics, economy and other reasons, it is very difficult for South Korea to connect with other countries.
South Korea proposed to develop 765 kV power grid as early as 1978. Compared with 345 kV, the voltage level of 765 kV has the following advantages:
First, effective use of land resources. The transmission capacity of 765 kV lines (double circuit on the same tower, 60) reaches 8,400 MW, while that of 345 kV lines (double circuit on the same tower, 40) is only 1,800 MW. The transmission capacity of the former is nearly five times that of the latter, but the floor space is reduced by 47% under the same transmission capacity, which effectively saves resources and costs and improves environmental protection conditions.
Second, the loss in power transmission is reduced, the transmission voltage is increased from 345 kV to 765 kV, and the line loss is reduced by 20%.
Third, it is to reduce construction investment. Under the same transmission capacity, the construction investment per kilowatt of 765 kV line is about 26% less than that of 345 kV line.
The four 765 kV substations put into operation by Korea Electric Power Company (the booster station of Tangjin Power Plant is not under the jurisdiction of Korea Electric Power Company) have the same structural layout. Three 765 kV transmission lines, all of which are erected with double circuits on the same tower, have a total length of 662 kilometers. According to the plan, Beiqingnan Substation and its transmission line to Xingaoli Nuclear Power Plant will be put into operation in 2008. In 2016, Xiqingbei Substation and its transmission lines to Beiqingnan Substation and Xin ‘ancheng Substation were put into operation.
Korea electric power’s global business
In August 1989, the shares of Korea Electric Power Company were listed on the Korean stock market, and 21% of the shares were sold to the public, becoming a partially privatized company. In October 1994, the shares of Korea Electric Power Company were listed on the new york stock market. At present, the company mainly focuses on transmission, distribution and power sales, and its service area covers not only the whole of Korea, but also overseas offices in Beijing, Hongkong, Paris and new york.
Through changes and reforms, Korea Electric Power Corporation has developed diversified operations and actively promoted international cooperation. Korea Electric Power Corporation has accumulated more than 30 years of experience and technology, has many professional subsidiaries, and has good conditions for international cooperation.
Since the establishment of the Overseas Business Promotion Group in 1993, it has signed technical cooperation agreements with the electric power departments of China and the Philippines, and signed a nuclear power maintenance technical service agreement with China Guangdong Nuclear Power Joint Venture Co., Ltd. in December 1993. According to this agreement, Korean technicians went to Guangdong Daya Bay Nuclear Power Station for maintenance consultation. Relying on its advanced technology and good reputation, the company has served as the technical consultant of Group 1 and Group 2 of China Guangdong Nuclear Power Station, and was responsible for training the employees of China Jinshan Nuclear Power Station.
In Yanji City, Jilin Province, the project proposal for building a 200 MW thermal power plant by BOT has been approved and further discussions are under way. In May, 1995, the ROM contract of Malaya Thermal Power Plant (650 MW) was signed with Philippine Power Company, and the company has been established in the local area, which is now operating the power generation business.
One of the key projects of international cooperation of Korea Electric Power Corporation is the cooperation with China in nuclear power. With the active support of the Korean and Chinese governments, the nuclear power cooperation between Korea Electric Power Corporation and China government and various power units is developing steadily.
