The theme of this exhibition is -ism, a word that does not exist in the dictionary. It is a tribute to the use of this word by John Lennon and Yoko Ono Lennon at the famous press conference held in Vienna on March 31st, 1969. When they hid behind a layer of cloth representing handbags, they wanted to make the public pay more attention to their language rather than their celebrity labels. During the whole conversation, they refused to walk out from behind the cloth.

If the handbag can have language function? So how do they feel about the long history that has made handbags an indispensable accessory for women all over the world? How will they describe their daily life and desires? Will they reveal the most important things that women keep in their handbags? Will they share the transformation of famous artists or the struggle between luxury brands producing handbags and fashion designers?

Handbags have become a unique fashion accessory, and this exhibition reinterprets this indispensable object from four themes:

When handbags meet history: a new perspective of handbag history from 1300 to the present

Handbags and Women’s Liberation: Viewing Women’s Status in History from Handbags History

When the handbag meets the royal family and stars: Grace Kelly, Coco Chanel, Yves Saint-Laurent and Lady Di’s handbag.

When Handbags Meet Artists: Dialogue between Artists and Handbags in Xizang and China
